How Does Iridium Cover the Entire Earth?
The Iridium constellation consists of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO), cross-linked satellites operating as a fully meshed network. That’s more satellites than any other constellation and one of the things that makes Iridium unique. Several overlapping satellites ensure the entire globe is covered. If you’d like to know more an independent study found Iridium’s network to have the best call quality and call completion rates over other similar competitors. This is one of the many reasons the U.S. military relies on the Iridium network.
Traveller’s Note: Although Iridium’s coverage is global, Iridium complies with U.S. embargo restrictions and as such is prohibited from providing products and service to the following countries: Taliban controlled Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Sudan. Since this is beyond Iridium’s control, each country is different and regulations may change without notice; it is best to check with the local Consulate or Customs offices for current details.
